Frankfurt certainly didn't put on its best weather for my arrival. Dull and overcast! And again my flight was uneventful. Just more crowded in the tiny (by comparison) 777-330. The reception I got in the arrivals hall was a big improvement on the weather! Beate cried and Hansi told me he was happy I made it! Not as happy as I was to have made it, let me tell you! Why must the other side of the world be so far away?! 😝
Whilst Emily didn't come to the airport 😔 the greeting I got from her at school pickup more than made up for that. Let's just say I think she might've been just a little bit happy to see me.
When she saw me get out of the car, she literally screamed. Like, really screamed! She screamed so loud it could've burst an ear drum! And run! Like lightning! I've never seen her run so fast! I was scared she might knock me to the ground when she reached me. Mind you I wouldn't have minded ending up on the ground after that reception. 😊 Happy mummy right at that moment! Then the tears - Emily cried, I cried and Beate was crying. 😂
Coffee and cake followed, as you do when you're in Germany! Lol. Beate baked a choc cake and had made biscuits. Emily and I then headed to MTZ for some shopping. We both got a coat coz mine just wasn't cutting it! The Christmas decorations were dazzling. So much more effort here than at home!
OMG! Then travel card wouldn't work! My worst fears had come true. In the end I found that mums card with what dad thought was the pin for his card worked. Relief! For a while there I thought we'd have no access to money!
For dinner we had THE best bratwurst. So much better than we get at home. By now I was feeling like the walking dead. The lights were on but no one was really home. I don't think I've ever had a better sleep really.
Friday morning we managed to speak to everyone. Think it was now Mitchy's turn to be incredibly happy! 😊 While Emily was at school, Beate and I were looking at photos from their trip to Singapore and Bali with Michael. Well Ken, it might be safe to say that Hansi could give you a bloody good run for your money with the amount of photos you both take! Think I must've looked at almost 800 photos! And Hansi said he had deleted quite a lot!
By then it was time to pick Em up from school again. They really only went for a class party and secret Santa. I met some of her friends - actually probably all of them. And I have to say they are a really lovely group of girls and boys! Yes even the boys were keen to meet me! And they were keen - most of them actually talked to me! Shock, horror, these German kids actually talk to their friends parents! I like it! I like it a lot! Oh, on writing this now I'm wishing I took a photo of them all together.
We went shopping for shoes...success for Emily ☺️but not for me 😔 I'll keep looking. We'd shopped quite an appetite so it was nice to return home to lasagne for lunch! Mmmm, schmeckt gut. Hansi and I then booked the train tickets to Bonn and while doing this, the sun made its long awaited appearance! The sun really does shine here in winter! Emily and I decided to go for a walk around Kriftel. The garden centre near the train station is incredible. Ken, if our garden centers were like this one I would come with you to one anytime! So much more than just plants!
So then we headed to the Christmas markets in Frankfurt. Wow, so big and SO MANY PEOPLE!!!! What an experience. Emily said she didn't realize there were that many people in Frankfurt! Lol. It was a Friday night though. We enjoyed a bratwurst brötchen - yum and I even tried Gluwein. Tried being the operative word! Mmmmm....not my cup of tea. Lol. Emily and I had a ride on the carousel - we had to fight little kids to get on a horse. Felt kinda mean, but little kids these days are quite ruthless.
By now we all had aching feet and decided to call it a night. Besides Em and I need to get organized for our trip to Bonn. It was a great day, but a long day!
Until next time, tschuss. 😘
