On my way

So the fligt to Dubai was long (14hrs) but fortunately uneventful. The A380 is a really nice plane - seems somewhat smoother if that is at all possible?!  We were late leaving Brisbane 😕, left at about 9.20pm, but we arrived in Dubai slightly ahead of schedule😄.

I opted for a coconut curry chicken with veg & rice for dinner, but considering we had already had dinner at the airport, I didn't eat much. It was very nice though. I then watched 2 movies - "we're the millers" and "goddess".

I managed to get some pretty good sleep once I fell asleep!  It was around 1am when I think I dozed off & the next thing I knew it was 3.30am. That's not to say that it was quality sleep but any shut eye on a long haul flight is better than none!!  I then slept again from around 4 to 6am. Again, not quality but more than what I got last time I flew to Germany. 😊

By around 8am breakfast was being served - omelette or scrambled eggs. I chose scrambled eggs cos the omelette came with baked beans 😳 not a good idea for long haul flights!  To fill in some more time I watched a few episodes of Friends.

Now as much as I love a window seat, for the views and something to lean on, when you need to use the bathroom an aisle seat is always a much better option!  Especially when the 2 gentlemen sitting beside you are asleep!!!!!  I seized the opportunity once the cabin crew had cleared the breakfast trays and before my neighbors returned to their sleepy slumber.

Getting to the toilet was a feat in itself. I ended up right down the tail end of the plane and then, unfortunately both toilets were out of loo paper!  Once someone in the line up found a hosty to request the said item we had to wait a further 5 or more min for it to arrive. It must've had to come from the very front of the plane. Anyway, by then the crew were handing out hot towels so I couldn't return to my seat cos they were blocking the aisles. I ended up stretching the old legs for around half an hour and chatting to a fellow passenger. Just as I was able to return to my seat, we began descending. At last!

Dubai looks massive at night all lit up. So many street lights and lots in very long, straight rows.  It was around 10.30am (bris time) when we landed. Local time was 5.30am and it was pitch black. This airport is unbelievable!  To get to the gate for my next flight I had to descend into what felt like the bowels of the airport (might be exaggerating a little there), then catch a train. Yes a train!  It took me to one of the many other terminals which house the gate I need. And outside are Emirates planes lined up as far as you can see in all directions!  After some pensioner paced ambling, looking at the shops I find I still have 2 hours to fill until boarding!  2 HOURS!!  What to do?  Well, it is midday (bris time) so I went to maccas. Was hoping I might be able to hook into free wifi but nope. Can't find any. I can't believe it - I thought for sure the airport would have some hotspots. So I apologize Mitchell, Ken, mum & dad for not contacting you from Dubai.

As I finish up this post, it is 6.50am local time and the sky is beginning to lighten. It looks just as hazy as it did when I was here in 2009 in July.  I thought that maybe as it is winter here that it might not be as hazy...perhaps it's fog - it's too hard to tell at the moment.  All going well, we will be boarding in about 40 mins.  As I just typed that, I got that excited feeling in my tummy knowing just how close I am to seeing Emily now.

While I think about it, another good reason to have an aisle seat esp on an A380 is cos they have wifi!  I could've sent you all this post from on board!  Oh well...

Nothing more to say at the moment, so until next time
Bye 😘
